Puppet Player

by Paolo Tabrilla

IN this artwork, Tabrilla gives a literal yet provocative interpretation to the title given, “Puppet Player”, pertaining to his chosen theme of the often overlooked situation control in the society.

Specializing in Music, the artist used a pianist to represent the player with strings attached to his body controlling him to play—like a puppet.

The oddity in the drawing is that the seemingly sinking pianist playing a piano larger than them, better represents the view of the artist as he expressed the little role of the pianist despite being the one playing the piano.

Meanwhile, the strings are controlled by a force not shown.

Barrier

by Caren Joyce Asuncion

FOR her art, Asuncion chose to represent her own struggles in achieving quality education as a student with special needs during online classes.

The education system in the country improved a lot in catering students with special needs, but with classes held either online or through modular learning, the situation at present day is as if everything went back to zero.

If having classes in each’s houses instead of schools—lacking the atmosphere and many other ordeals—isn’t enough of a barrier, Asuncion battles another barrier represented by a dome-like aura in her illustration.

Words unsaid, thoughts unexpressed – a more dystopian analysis of the struggle that is yet to be removed when the situation becomes better and as normal as before.
